Notice that you can still create a link to SQL Server if you didn t choose that option in the Data Connection Wizard. For an Access desktop database (.mdb), select Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and click the Next button to move to the Connection tab. (You can also click the Connection tab directly.) You ll see the same options that you examined previously in Figure 27-58. Specify your database location, or click the Build button to open the Select Access Database dialog box if you want to navigate to the file location. After you specify the file and click OK in the Data Link Properties dialog box, the Data Connection Wizard shows you a confirmation page that lists the queries and tables in the database you selected. When you choose SQL Server as the data source, you use this page to navigate to the specific database on the server that you want. When you use an Access desktop database file (.mdb) as the source, you ll see a list of the first seven queries in the database, but you won t be able to modify or select anything in the list. Click Next to go to the last page of the wizard as shown in Figure 27-63.

The Ancestors axis method works exactly like the Descendants method, except instead of searching down the XML tree, it searches up the tree. It offers the same signature and has the same related methods, AncestorsAndSelf and AncestorNodes. Unlike all the other axis methods we ve discussed so far, Ancestors searches for matching elements that are above the current node within the XML tree. So far, we ve learned how to get a list of books within a category element using a combination of Element and Elements, as well as how to get every book within our XML using Descendants. In this section, we re going to learn how we can use Ancestors to get the list of categories that a given book is in. The first thing we ll need to do is select the book that we re interested in. To do this, we can use the Descendants axis method to select all the books in our XML. Once we have all the books, we can filter the list of books down to the single one we re interested in using the Where and First standard query operators, like so:

Microsoft Office Access 2003 Inside Out By default, the wizard stores the new data connection file in My Documents\My Data Sources. You can specify a different location by entering a full path name or by clicking the Browse button and navigating to a new location. You can type a description to help identify the purpose of the file. Notice that you can select an option to Save password in file if your database is secured. You should choose this option only when you place the data connection file on a network share that can be accessed only by authorized users. Click Finish to save the new data connection file. You ll see the Select Data Source dialog box again where you can confirm the file name that you want to use. When you return to the Properties window, you ll see the location of the data connection file entered in the ConnectionFile property of your page. Keep in mind that this must be a location on a network share if you want to publish your pages on an intranet.

As I wrote this book, I saved all the sample files in the Microsoft Press\Access 2003 Inside Out folder on my C drive. I also saved all the data access pages in the Webs\DataAccessPages subfolder. I knew that the installation procedure for the companion CD would allow you to specify a different location for the sample files. So, the data access page links from the Housing .mdb sample database to the sample data access pages might be incorrect. Also, the ConnectionString property in the data access pages might point to the wrong location. To solve this problem, I wrote some Visual Basic code that runs in the frmCopyright form that opens each time you open the database. The Load event procedure calls a function included in the form module to check and fix both the links and the ConnectionString property. If the function fails, the code displays a message to let you know that you might need to fix the problems yourself in order to work with the examples. The function is as follows:
