If you have copied your database to a network share, you can click the My Network Places link to navigate through your network to find the share and the file. When you use My Network Places, the builder stores the file location in Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format, as in \\MyServer\DAPDatabases\Housing.mdb. When you store the location in this way, any user can open this data access page as long as they have access to the share name. After you locate the database, click Open to pass the location back to the Data Link Properties dialog box. Click OK in the dialog box to save the changed connection string. Notice that the Connection tab allows you to enter a user name and password if your Access desktop database file is secured. For unsecured desktop databases, use the Admin user name and leave the Blank password option selected. You can learn more about securing desktop databases in 30, Securing Your Database. On the Advanced tab, you can find options to set the locking options for the recordsets opened by the page. You should normally leave these options at their default settings.

The easiest way to create a connection file is to click the ConnectionFile property field in any data access page and then click the Build button that appears at the end of the property. Access displays the Select Data Source dialog box shown in Figure 27-60 on the next page.

If you already have a data source file defined, you can use this dialog box to navigate to it and select the file, and then click OK to save the file location in the ConnectionFile property.
